Compromise is Hard

The Epic Zone has been taking on a slightly different type of article writing lately. The articles have been about some political bullshit, but in all honesty, some of the things I've been hearing about the government are complete and utter bullshit. For example, this little bullshit idea.

Well if you're a living breathing American you've either heard about or have been part of all the bitching going on over the gas prices out there. Some out there like to blame our President, these people are fucking morons. On a side note, our President really can't do jack shit about the prices, all he can really do is encourage Congress to make legislation.

What's the bad part? Congress has been working on a nifty little piece of legislation to help out with the gas. Get this, they want to send out a $100 check to drivers out there. Well Congress, maybe you could simplify the process with a little something I call LOWERING THE FUCKING OIL TAXES. I know, you think I'm nuts right? Well understand this, the oil company's don't earn much off a gallon of gas. You know how much they do make? Just take a wild guess, out of that $3.00 a gallon how much do you really think is a profit for oil companies?

Give up?Well the answer is crazy. Exxon makes 9 cents, yes 9 fucking cents out of that $3.00 that you pay. So now how much does the federal government make? 18 cents. Yes, that's just from federal taxes, when you add on taxes from State and local government it gets bad. You could lower the price by about 50 cents a gallon just by eliminating the taxes. Take a look at this map, the lowest priced states are those that don't have much tax locally. Coincidence? I think not. So next time you want to bitch about your president, stop. Bitch about your stupid Congress.

Here's a picture I took while watching CNN. Now I know you can't trust news totally, but this is true. It confirms what I've been saying.

Luckily the guy on the right got his face blurred a bit. However this kind of information is only on the side of the screen. No one is ever mentioning this in Congress or on CNN or for that matter, anywhere.

There's also some things out there that the public can do, but alas they choose to be assholes and not do it. For example many drivers could:

Buy a fuel efficient car - Many people don't like this. You mean if I want to pay less you gas I actually need to make smart choices? No, that shouldn't be. We should complain to our local congressmen so I can continue driving my H2 to work.

Drive slower - It's a proven fact, if you drive the speed limit you can increase your gas mileage by as much as 25%. Hell that's a pretty good number, but I would rather drive 75 MPH everywhere and complain. That's more sensible.

Maintain your car - Get off your ass for once and check your oil filter, take that dead body out of your car, do whatever you can to reduce weight and keep the material clean. A clean engine can add 5% MPG if you do a nice job. An oxygen sensor can add 15% if you replace a bad one.

Put Acetone in your gas - This is something I stumbled across, putting 3 oz. of Acetone in every 10 gallons of gas you get can increase gas mileage by as much as 35%.

I was curious to see how much gas I could save simply by slowing down my car and adding acetone to my car. With my first experiment I decided to slow down, I ran my car at 50 MPH unless coasting down hill. This is slightly above the speed limits here, but is still a reasonable rate of speed to drive. At this point I still did not add Acetone to the car, I want to see how much I can save with slower driving alone. After 5 days I was getting on average 18 MPG. For such a small car this is a disappointing number indeed.

Now it's time to add the Acetone. I continued the same driving patterns as above and added 3 oz. of Acetone to every 10 gallons of gas I use. Upon running 5 days my gas mileage jumped to an awesome 25 MPG. That's over a 33% increase and is something to be very proud of. In fact this brings me to a different point, why don't the gas companies add this to their fuel mix? Well the answer is simple:

Gas + Acetone = Better Fuel Mileage = Less Profits for Oil Companies

So you see, the oil companies also can compromise to make this happen too. The point is, there are things that everyone involved can do to make this work. The problem is, all parties aren't willing to compromise. Cutting taxes would prevent that pay raise for the Congress, driving slower would be too much of a hassle for the consumer(Not to mention buying something other than a tank, I mean SUV), and adding more efficient chemicals to gas would lower the oil companies profits to less than 100 Billion. People just need to get their heads out of their asses here, the answer is right in front of us, yet no one is willing to work enough to get the answer.
